2023 has been another fantastic year at ICMP with plenty to celebrate for students, staff and alumni. 

From performing on some of the world's biggest stages and releasing critically acclaimed music to award nominations and brilliant academic achievements, it's been a busy and exciting 2023. 

Here's to 2024 and check out some of the highlights (in no particular order) of the last 12 months below…

ICMP's Songwriters' Circle celebrates 10th anniversary

ICMP's prestigious Songwriters' Circle event, which has seen students perform alongside many top music industry talents, is marking its 10th anniversary in our current academic year. 

Many leading artists and songwriters from across the industry have shared their songs and stories within ICMP's Songwriters' Circle. 

Among them have been Xtra Mile Recording artist Frank Turner, Bruno Major and ICMP alumna, Elena Tonra, from the band Daughter

ICMP's Geo Aghinea wins Oram Awards 

Congratulations to ICMP BA Songwriting graduate Geo Aghinea for being named among the winners of the Oram Awards. 

The London-based producer, composer, and vocalist was recognised for their innovative approach to sound and music.

ICMP achieves best-ever annual NSS scores

ICMP was delighted to achieve the best-ever National Student Survey (NSS) scores, outperforming many other small and specialist institutions in the music and creative arts sectors. 

ICMP’s 'overall positivity rating' was an impressive 81.9 percent and above the UK average of 79.7 percent.

Luke Bullard tours with James Bay 

Luke Bullard, ICMP BMus Popular Music Performance alumnus, has spent most of the year on tour with BRIT Award winner James Bay. 

Luke studied with ICMP between 2013 and 2015 and ever since leaving our classrooms, has been working as a session guitarist and private tutor.

ICMP community celebrated Pride 2023

ICMP students and alumni collaborated with Success Express Music to host a Pride 2023 wrap-party at the World's End venue in Finsbury Park.

ICMP performers included Ella Eliza, Macie Nyah and Jobie who all played alongside artist Eden J Howells to a packed crowd as part of the celebrations. 

Elsewhere in the capital, tutors Joshua Satchell, performing as SATCH, and Dilys Uwagbow (performing as ECKOES), both played Mzz Kimberley's Trans Stage in Soho Square.

ICMP's Truetones covers Stevie Wonder’s 'Heaven Help Us All'

ICMP's Truetones group recorded a new cover version of Stevie Wonder's 1970 classic, 'Heaven Help Us All'

Truetones is an auditioned group of students, representing multiple courses at ICMP,  who are all passionate about vocals, harmonies and a cappella harmonies. 

The choir features Natalja Zaugarova, James Tatman, Kateryna Swirid, Shayla Motley, Vânia Lima, Janetta Ivanova, Saishri Cappel and Manav Sharma.

ICMP alumna Kaity Rae nominated at MPG Awards 2023 

Congratulations to ICMP BA Songwriting alumna Kaity Rae on her nomination at the 2023 MPG Awards

Kaity was nominated in the Writer-Producer category alongside Little Simz and Sault producer INFLO and Kid Harpoon. 

Kaity's songwriting and production credits include an array of artists such as The Shires alongside writing/co-producing the theme song for the movie 'How To Build A Girl'.

Freshers 2023 

We've had a blast welcoming all our new students to ICMP this year.

Each September, we start off the new academic year with a bang with an array of live music events, masterclasses and socials all designed to pull our new community of students together. Watch this round up of Freshers 2023.

ICMP's Sophie Daniels nominated at Women in Music Awards 2023 

Congratulations to ICMP's Head of Songwriting Professor Sophie Daniels for receiving multiple nominations at this year's Music Week Women In Music Awards. 

Taking place in November in London, the event celebrated the careers of unsung women and female-identifying people in the music business.

Sophie was nominated for the Roll Of Honour and the Special Recognition awards.

ICMP's Izzy Eddies returned to Wilderness Festival

ICMP Music Business and Entrepreneurship student Izzy Eddies returned to work at Wilderness Festival in summer 2023. 

Taking place over August in Oxfordshire, the event welcomed the Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim and Christine and the Queens for a weekend of music, arts, food and more. 

Izzy's role this year was as Programming Assistant so working with agents and bookers on the event's line-up.

Legendary producer Andrew Scheps returns to ICMP 

We were thrilled to host legendary Grammy Award-winning Mixing Engineer Andrew Scheps. 

Andrew has engineered and mixed some of the biggest rock bands in the world: Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Weezer, Audioslave, Black Sabbath and many more.

The Raven Age release new album with strings recorded at ICMP 

The Raven Age, one of UK metal's most exciting young bands, released their third album, 'Blood Omen', with strings recorded at ICMP's Queen's Park campus. 

Jai Patel, ICMP Drums alumnus, is a member of the band and studied with ICMP tutor Audrey Riley who worked on the arrangements.

ICMP celebrates Silver Award in TEF

ICMP was delighted to receive a Silver rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). 

The rating recognised our 'Student experience' and 'Student outcomes' related to our undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. ICMP was rated Silver in both categories marking a huge achievement for our team.

ICMP hosted London Music Weekend for Italian partner schools 

ICMP welcomed students from a number of different Italian music schools for our latest London Music Weekend. 

Students from The Hub Academy in Montecchio, (ICMP partner school and event organiser), L'Accademia in Parma (partner school), Grooveland in Reggio Emilia, Musicarte Scuola di Livorno and Take Five in Citta di Castello were among those who visited for three days of performance and collaboration.

ICMP Marketing student Wiktoria Wolny captures photos of leading artists

Wiktoria Wolny is a BA Music Marketing student and aspiring photographer and content creator who's been capturing some of the action at recent ICMP events. 

Alongside our own event calendar, Wiktoria has also worked at a variety of live shows and gigs, taking photos of artists including Louis Tomlinson and 5 Seconds of Summer.

Ace's Skunk Anansie nominated at MOBO Awards 

Skunk Anansie, featuring Ace, ICMP’s Head of Industry Partnerships and Business Development, was among the shortlisted nominees at the MOBO Awards 2022. 

The legendary rock band was nominated for a prestigious award at the MOBOs this year in the new category of best Alternative Music Act.

Our very special guest artist Isatta Sheriff performed her incredible track 'Who Am I' at our recent Hip Hop Writers event in London.

ICMP tutor Linett Kamala nominated as Underground Hero by DJ Mag

Congratulations to ICMP tutor Linett Kamala on being nominated as an Underground Hero in DJ Mag’s Best of British 2023 Awards. 

Linett teaches on ICMP's BA (Hons) Live Event and Festival Management degree. 

Her musical adventures began during the eighties when she is credited as being one of the first female DJs to perform at the iconic Notting Hill Carnival, aged just 15.
