ICMP has announced details of its new BA (Hons) Live Event and Festival Management, an innovative degree aimed at supporting the next generation of live music professionals.

Over the three years of the course, students will learn the logistics involved in managing and hosting live events.

The live event management degree, which has been put together with input from leading live music industry organisations, has been developed for a new and exciting era for the sector.

Participants will get to grips with every aspect of the event management process including how to run a soundcheck, the best ways to host a sustainable event and how to manage an event when it rains.

Other elements will focus on multimedia activities including virtual reality, live streams and hologram performances.

Ken Foreman, ICMP's Associate Dean and BA (Hons) Music Business and Entrepreneurship Programme Leader, said:

We're delighted to be offering what we believe is a ground-breaking new programme aimed at helping prepare the next generation of live music entrepreneurs for music industry success."

"Designed with key players in the live music ecosystem such as Music Venue Trust, this new course will equip students with the practical skills to get to grips with this fast-changing sector. From business and marketing to project management, students will gain the essential skills and knowledge to run their own creative live events."

Elsewhere in the three years, students will gain knowledge of the financial and economic side of the business and how to apply to funding organisations to help bring ideas to life.

In the final year, a Live Project module will give you the chance to collaborate on creating an ambitious project or initiative.

Jamie Johnston, ICMP Music Business and Entrepreneurship Module Leader, said: "If you want to work in the live music sector, then this course will give you access to that world."

The future promoters, agents, festival programmers, curators, venue managers, tour managers, production managers and more will emerge from this degree programme well placed to run their own creative live events and develop sustainable businesses."

Creating opportunities for learners to put into practice their skills and knowledge also runs through everything we do, providing students with real-world placement and shadowing connections.

"We explore the events industry as a whole, from large commercial activity to the grass roots informed by both activity happening in the West and non-Western environments and in the non-profit and profit sectors."
