ICMP students had the opportunity to showcase their talents and support the local community as part of 2022’s Kilburn Fringe Festival.

Supported by both the London Borough of Brent and the London Borough of Camden, the festival is curated by Alan Medley from the Kilburn State of Mind charity

As part of this year’s event, Alan arranged an ICMP showcase at the Kilburn Arms as a way of welcoming students to the local music scene. This event saw Marta Mauceri, Tessa Tide, Paula Macia, Jaz Beeson, Anna Houghton and the Rattle Collective all take to the stage.

Slicko, CHRLI, Lejaune and Cash Boogie all performed at our ICMP at the Fiddler night. The venue is owned by iconic music venue manager Vince Power and the event was part of our Black History Month programme.

Terri Cash, Widening Participation and Community Manager, said: "Kilburn’s diversity and vibrant music scene should be celebrated and I felt it was important to be part of the Kilburn Fringe Festival."

"A mere 10 years ago, students in Kilburn had access to venues playing live music every night of the week including the iconic Luminaire and Powers. Over recent years, as with so many venues, they have sadly disappeared. It means that for new students joining ICMP, they are unaware of the history Kilburn has with the live music scene."

I'm really glad the Fringe has been a success and thanks to Alan's leadership, our students have been able to expand their network by meeting other musicians locally, boosting the local economy and encouraging businesses to play live music again."

"It is an opportunity for ICMP to once again showcase the incredible talent emerging from our university. Our students also play a vital role in supporting the local area, hospitality and retail businesses."

Alan, Kilburn State of Mind Director, said: "When the charity has a community gig or festival we always like to allow space for stage time for ICMP as they are a very important part of the local music scene and local culture."

The Kilburn Arms has a very strong music community and is a great place for the students to integrate into, meeting older supportive musicians and hopefully playing together at one of the amazing open mic sessions."

Well done to all the students and local performers involved.
