Here at ICMP we are proud to support our community and always look forward to sharing their successes.

Each Tuesday, we present a student or alumn music project, making it our #ICMPSpotlight of the week.

This time we've chosen to shine a light on So Toto, Toto's global tribute band featuring alumni Freddie Draper, Doug Weekes, and Connor Flys.

ICMP SPOTLIGHT: 24TH FEBRUARY 2020

SO TOTO, a Toto tribute band featuring BMus alumni Freddie Draper, Doug Weekes, and Connor Flys.

So Toto is the 'ultimate Global tribute to Toto'. The band comprises of talented musicians, including our very own Popular Music Performance alumni Freddie Draper, Doug Weekes, and Connor Flys.

The group has risen rapidly to wide critical acclaim, performing from Toto’s immense catalogue of best-loved, Grammy-award winning hits, including the amazing “Africa”, “Rosanna”, “Hold The Line”, and “Stop Loving You”.

For Freddie and the other guys, there were a few reasons to start a Toto tribute project. Firstly, the calibre of venues and opportunities that are available in the cover-band market. Freddie told us that;

I’ve toured with loads of tribute bands and seeing the reaction of audience members... It is mind-blowing!

Another driver was Freddie's obsession with Toto and their music; the band was formed of session players who recorded with the likes of Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, and Bruce Springsteen, to name a few. Freddie, who's also a member of the ICMP faculty, often relies on their music as examples in bass and arranging classes.
