ICMP is to host a day of workshops on how DJ and music technology can be used in music therapy with Chiltern Music Therapy.

Taking place on Saturday 7th July, the event is part of a new partnership between ICMP and the award-winning not-for-profit organisation.

The day will provide participants with practical demonstrations to use in music therapy and is suitable for complete beginners, anyone needing a refresher or those with previous experience of using technology and DJing.

Jonathan Whiskerd, ICMP's Programme Leader for BA Songwriting, said:

Chiltern is a wonderful organisation doing great community work. I am so pleased to be collaborating with their Managing Director Rosie Axon to forge a partnership between our two organisations; there is clearly much we can learn from one another and our respective areas of specialism.

“This partnership will provide scope for ICMP students to learn about - and even gain practical experience in - music therapy, which represents one of the many progression routes for our graduates. At the same time, we hope to be able to offer the expertise of our specialist faculty of musicians, songwriters and producers to provide training and workshops for Chiltern's therapists and clients."

Rosie Axon, Chiltern Music's Therapy's Managing Director, said:

“I am thrilled to be working in partnership with ICMP. Even from the very first discussion between myself and Jonathan, it was clear that there were so many wonderful synergies and opportunities that both organisations could offer each other.

Our music therapists and community musicians are so excited that they will be gaining world class expertise from the staff at ICMP as part of their Continuing Professional Development and are also really looking forward to having the opportunity to engage with the students at ICMP to discuss their work, and support them with future career development within music therapy, community music and arts in health."

Topics to be explored on the day will include:

- Beginners guide to DJ skills and music production
- Advanced training in Garage Band
- Music technology devices and equipment for low mobility clients

The course has been developed exclusively for music therapists and music therapy trainees.
