ICMP hosted the London Music Weekend, welcoming students from a variety of international partner schools to take advantage of learning and performance opportunities.

Students from Italian schools including Music Arte, Grooveland, Take 5 Music Academy, The Hub Academy and Sonopoli Music School all attended.

A total of 50 students participated with masterclasses hosted by Nate Allen (of Amy Winehouse's band) and Ace (Skunk Anansie guitarist and ICMP’s Head of Industry Partnerships and Business Development).

Commenting on the event, Ace said: "The London Music Weekends are always an absolute joy and pleasure to hold and be a part of. They keep building year-on-year, and the talent just keeps getting better and better."

It's a wonderful thing to see such young people enjoying playing instruments and performing together, making friends and experiencing London through the eyes of ICMP."

Nate Allen held a masterclass on working as a professional drummer and shared his story about meeting Amy Winehouse, working in her band throughout her career from playing in pubs to headlining festivals. He played along to backing tracks and also worked with the students in their performance workshops over the two days.

Ace gave a light-hearted songwriting masterclass playing the songs of Skunk Anansie and telling the stories behind their creation and recordings, and how they broke the charts.

Eoin Walsh, bass player, alongside ICMP staff member, alumna/R&B professional Andrea Arrindell worked with students in the Queens Park venue in preparation for their final performance at the nearby venue, the Fiddler on Saturday night.

The whole weekend was supported by our Erasmus exchange student from the Vienna music Institute, Max Wagner, who provided facilities support and live sound services across our venue, and at the live gig.

The weekend was organised by Luca Pellizzaro from the Hub Academy and ICMP’s own events team.

Huge thanks to all participants, students and staff who made the weekend work. Now we are looking forward to the tenth anniversary of the London Music Weekend in December, with special guests and a celebratory musical extravaganza.
