Called ICMP Together, the initiative will see a series of targeted videos from our expert music tutors posted free of charge on our YouTube channel.

The ICMP Together initiative comes at a challenging time. Not only is the need for connection greater than ever, but people likely have more time to embrace a new musical skill or brush up on an existing one. Additionally, the school sees this as a chance to give back to the community in which it operates – Kilburn and Brent specifically – after more than 30 years of local support.

The videos will span four categories; Vocals, Drums, Guitar, and the last one targeted at primary school-aged children and their parents.

The four ICMP tutors creating content for ICMP Together are David Combes (vocals), Nick Varey (guitar), Jon Harris (drums) and Katie Birtill (music with children).

Content in each category will comprise of three 30-minute videos in which tutors discuss their subject and offer first-hand anecdotes from their experiences recording and performing live. They will also offer helpful advice for beginners, such as how to get started on that particular instrument, the best kind of gear to buy, and where to find additional information.

ICMP Chief Executive Paul Kirkham says of the initiative:

We’re thrilled to launch ICMP Together, an initiative that will bring the joy of making music to our wider community. The people of Kilburn and Brent have made all of us at ICMP feel so welcome over many years and so. Especially in these difficult times, it’s great to be able to contribute something back."

"Music has a restorative, therapeutic and inspirational power and has always served to brighten people’s lives. We’re extremely proud of this project, and hope it helps bring the joy of music to many.”

All videos will also include a practical component, where tutors analyse a song from the perspective of their instrument/category and offer valuable tips on how to study and perform it.

All content will be suitable for anyone with an interest in music – beginners and existing musicians alike – and gives the rare opportunity to glean ideas and advice from some of the industry’s best.
