ICMP Industry Mentor Carla Monroe is standing for election as a member of the PRS Council.

The artist is one of thirteen candidates standing for up to three writer Council Member vacancies. The members work with PRS for Music on representing the wider views of its membership, reviewing company performance and holding the board to account.

Carla has been at ICMP since 2019, providing advice, guidance and support to the next generation of music makers, steering current students and alumni as they pursue careers in the music industry.

Since 2017 she has worked as a prolific songwriter and vocalist scoring a huge hit with US DJ Marc Kinchen ‘MK’ on the single ‘17’.

Commenting on standing, Carla said: "I really want to work hard at bridging the gap between the board and its members by making the society more accessible to the people that make it.

I believe equality and diversity is key to achieving this and I think as a woman of Caribbean heritage, I am a great physical representation of this. Music is made by all genders, races and cultures after all, so I feel passionately that this should be reflected through access to, and representation on the board."

"My other main objective is to work towards changing people’s perspective of what PRS looks like. As a writer who is part of the PRS community, I would like to try and make the PRS 'body' one that is warm, friendly, inviting to its new and existing members."

"My experience as a mentor at ICMP has also given me a unique set of skills that will enable me to bridge the gap between the institution of PRS and the next generation of young creatives. I really want to give young creatives a voice, while working to represent PRS as a community that isn’t faceless, but one that is personable and all inclusive!"

Good luck to Carla in her bid to be elected to the council.

Voting for the Members’ Council Ballot 2021 is open until 5pm on Wednesday 5 May.

The results of the ballot and the names of the individuals eligible for appointment to the Council will be announced at the PRS AGM on Wednesday 19 May 2021.
