Congratulations to ICMP BA Live Events Management student Amelia Hooper-Jennings on securing work with two leading music businesses, Orbit PR and X-Ray

Orbit PR specialises in music events working with festivals such as Secret Garden Party and Red Rooster Festival.

The business is run by Director Karen Johnson who Amelia is closely supporting as an assistant. Her role at X-Ray came after Karen recommended her to Director Ian Huffam.

Since taking on the post at Orbit PR, Amelia has also been involved in the recruitment process for volunteers at Secret Garden Party in press accreditation. It has led to her providing opportunities for a number of ICMP students to gain invaluable experience in live events.

We caught up with Amelia to find out more about the work and how her ICMP studies prepared her to take on these industry roles...

Congratulations on the jobs! Could you talk about what they involve?

My role at Orbit PR involves pitching emerging artists at festivals to publications, pitching festivals to festival guides, creating guest/press lists and photo passes, reviewing CVs and hiring volunteers for festivals, curating and emailing press releases and traditional marketing.

My role at X-Ray is office administration which involves organising and inputting promoter and venue data in preparation for contracts, tracking ticket sales, social media, general admin and office duties, forwarding on submissions to relevant agents and helping out in any way they need.

What events/projects are keeping you busy?

With Orbit PR, we had the Red Rooster Festival at the start of June. Coming up we have Secret Garden Party, Hardwick Festival, Bingley Weekender, Rock and Roll Circus, Noel Gallagher at Audley End and Robbie Williams at Sandringham.

At X-Ray, everyone is always busy with the huge roster of clients and festival season! Hyde Park, Glastonbury, Blur at Wembley - the list goes on. I’ve been doing some data entry on contracts for upcoming tours recently too."

You are also recruiting ICMP students into posts? How does this process work?

The Secret Garden Party team has involved me in the recruitment process for volunteers for the press tent and press accreditation. This has led to me reviewing CVs, recommending my peers at ICMP and hosting interviews.

The team at ICMP collected CVs from those who might be interested, then I reviewed them when they were sent in.

How have your studies equipped you to make the most of your work outside the classroom?

From terminology to networking, the first year of my course has helped me fit into these jobs so easily.

Real world examples such as show contracts have made me feel a lot more prepared for the things that I work on on a daily basis."

What does the future have in store for you?

I’m not too sure at the moment! I’m looking forward to continuing my studies in September. I feel so grateful to have gained two paid jobs in the industry after only my first year. I’m loving the work that I’m doing at the moment so potentially continue in the agent/PR field.

I would also like to look into more hands on work such as tour managing and production managing and we have modules in second year that will allow me to explore that further.
