Mash P is a student on our six-month Music Production and Sound Engineering course as part of a newly launched Audient sponsorship, and is blogging about his experiences with us in the classroom.

So, I am here again today for my blog and I want to say thank you to everybody for supporting me, everybody behind me and caring about me on the course.

I had a difficult time a couple of weeks ago when I was shut down.

The kind help from ICMP, from the students, my mates and staff, the support that they gave me has helped me gain back my mental health and get back to normal with my music."

Since I have been on this course, it has helped me so much with my music creation including techniques such as using EQ, pitch correction, compressors and how to use the buzz.

It’s given me some great abilities now to have the confidence that I can work on my own songs and produce them myself. I have a couple of songs that I have already finished which are using my beats!

I have created a beat which was sent to Sierra Leone that I have made the chorus for and I am asking four rappers from the Black street youth to record a verse each. They are street youth who I have known a long time and will welcome this opportunity. I created a reggae beat called 'Focus' which has hints of afrobeat which is my main style.

Already I hope to open a studio in Taiama, my hometown, where there is nothing happening and most youth are unemployed.

ICMP truly showed me I have a second chance and I promise I will make good use of it. I want to tell anyone who is looking out for a proper place to study music that I think ICMP is one of the best in the UK!"

I remember back in Africa; you know your classmates, you have rapport, you know each other’s problems, you care about them. That is what my classmates are here to do too and they have really shown me how kind they are, so I want to say thank everyone again.

I am really enjoying the course and I feel bad about missing some classes recently because of Covid, particularly because it’s important to me to be here and learning and collaborating. How people treat me here will be stuck in my mind forever.
