ICMP’s Programme Leader for BA Songwriting Jonathan Whiskerd is to host a lyric writing workshop as part of the Sounds Like London campaign.
The initiative spearheaded by Mayor Of London Sadiq Khan aims to support the capital’s grassroots music scene for a month of live music and events across June 2018.
This free, practical workshop with Jonathan will enable attendees to explore the creative process and discover key conventions around lyric writing.
Commenting on Sounds Like London, The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said:
London is a powerhouse of music, having produced artists from Adele to Stormzy, and the XX to Dua Lipa. Grassroots music venues are at the very heart of our success as a global capital of music - they are the places where emerging artists are able to hone their talent, and great producers and promoters are able to cut their teeth in the industry.
“However, too many venues find themselves under threat due to rising rents, business rates or encroaching development. I’m doing everything I can as Mayor of London to protect and support grassroots music venues.
For ICMP, supporting the great initiative with a free workshop not only allows us to give back to the city we call home but enables us to do what we do best – support the next generation of musical talent.
In the practical session, you will:
Discover key conventions in popular lyric writing
Explore the creative process
Learn professional approaches and techniques for writing impactful lyrics
The workshop will give you a clearer understanding of the creative and technical aspects of lyric writing and equip you with the confidence to write lyrics in your own style.
