The winners of the Song Academy’s Young Songwriter 2018 competition, sponsored by ICMP, have been announced.

ICMP supported the award alongside other leading music industry organisations PRS for Music, Trinity College London, Focusrite, SoundCloud and The Troubabour.

Now in its seventh year, the contest is regarded as the leading international competition for young songwriters aged between eight and 18 years old.

Dan Green, Deputy Programme Leader for BA Songwriting, said:

As ever, it was great to be involved with Song Academy’s Young Songwriter Competition. We have a fantastic partnership with Song Academy and it is always a pleasure to support a competition which encourages young writers and champions the song itself.

Dan oversaw the judging process for ICMP this year and led a team of our songwriting teaching staff who listened to every single entry to arrive at a top ten. In addition to Dan, the judging team included Gabriel Stebbing and Adriano Buffone and I know they were all impressed with the standard of entries.

Sophie Daniels, MA Songwriting Programme Leader, said:

Alongside the ICMP involvement in the process, I was excited to be on the main judging panel this year and enjoyed the final conference call where all the judges passionately put the case for the songs that made the top ten, pushing forward the ones that had moved and impressed them.

"I was personally looking for a good standard of lyric writing along with writing craft and unique or original content, and I was pleased that the winners all brought these qualities to their writing."
