Liberty’s Mother, a musical project led by ICMP’s Head of Songwriting Sophie Daniels, performed a special live set as part of the Walk for Hope organised by baby charity Tommy’s.

Taking place on 7th October in London’s Battersea Park, Sophie’s band featured ICMP alumni from a variety of courses with ICMP’s Ben Jones, Programme Leader for the BMus Popular Music Performance course, as Musical Director.

Sophie has released music as Liberty’s Mother including 'I Can Love You From Here' EP, a collection of songs exploring stories of marriage, friendship and parenting. The lead track was written for her daughter Liberty who sadly passed away in 2011.

Commenting, Sophie said:

It was our privilege to sing at the Walk Of Hope as the Liberty's Mother band - what a wonderful event organised by Tommy's for Baby Loss Awareness Week."

"I’m sending love and light to everyone who came to the evening and all parents who have suffered baby loss. We raised money and, most importantly, shared the music and moments with the parents and families who came to join this walk."

The project has seen a revolving cast of creatives from ICMP's community feature with BMus alumni Peter Napper, Vinnie Minotto and Charles Bioul all performing. ICMP tutors including Julian Marshall, Luke Toms and Paul Stanborough helped with the record and Jonathan Whiskerd co-wrote.

Sophie added:

I love how it's been such an ICMP community project with graduates and staff contributing their time pro bono and Ben Jones expertly musically directing each iteration of the band."

Sophie has performed the song for the All Parliamentary Group for Baby Loss with funds from the release of the EP to be donated to Tommy’s.

The band also played at the opening of the award winning Still Parents exhibition at The Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester in 2022.
