Here at ICMP, we’re adding yet another postgraduate degree to our course offering, with the MA Creative Music Production launching at the college in September this year.

Now open for applications, this one year full-time or two years part-time Masters in Creative Music Production is a highly practical degree which will see you gain competence in mixing and mastering while you start to explore and develop a unique sonic signature for your music. You’ll also study production techniques, plus trends and practices in studio production and digital audio recording, and will begin to cement your creative music production processes while you bring your music production projects to life.

The masters in music production concludes with participation in the highly creative Major Production Project, where you’ll create a showcase piece – often an artist album or similar – which can be launched to the music industry. As you develop your seminal work of art, you’ll be mentored and guided by an ICMP supervisor who is an expert in creative music production, recording and the workings of the music industry.

Successful completion of your postgraduate study will see you graduate with a sought-after degree from the University of East London, and you will have enhanced your identity, creativity and confidence as both an academic and music producer. You’ll be ready for successful employment in the music industry and our ICMP’s Careers and Industry Hub team will provide personalised advice regarding the next stage of your careers journey.

Jason O’Bryan, a member of the team who developed the new programme, says the masters has been designed to allow you to investigate your specific areas of interest in music production:

The MA in music production is both highly personalised and highly collaborative, enabling you to work regularly with fellow ICMP students to achieve your course goals and bring your creative projects to life.”

Financial support for master’s degree courses in music is available to students at ICMP from the academic year 2020–21 onwards and eligible students can access loans up to the value of £11,222. EU students, applying to start their course in 2020, will also continue to be eligible for home fee status and have access to student finance, and this will stay in place for the course’s duration.

Applicants will usually have a 2i Honours degree or above or equivalent in music or the arts, or one from other fields if specific music experience can be demonstrated at interview stage. Mature candidates with skills and experience but no formal qualifications are also welcome to apply.

ICMP’s Associate Dean, Professor Louise Jackson, says that, like all ICMP degrees, the masters has been designed to operate within the real world of the contemporary music industry: “Students will be invited to attend music production networking events, weekly masterclasses and unique experiences with special guest musicians. The course’s London location also means they’ll have many opportunities to present their creative music production skills at top events, helping them to build impressive musical connections in London and beyond.”
