ICMP is delighted to announce the appointment of Syra Vahidy as our first Honorary Fellow.

Syra initially enrolled as a guitar student when ICMP was known as the Guitar Institute. In 2009 she joined ICMP as an Associate Executive Director and remained on the Corporate Board until 2020.

In this new role, Syra will continue the fantastic work she’s already done in championing ICMP.

Commenting on this new position, Syra said:

“As the first ever recipient of an ICMP Honorary Fellowship, I deeply appreciate the honour. But more importantly it means that I will have a lifelong association with ICMP, an institution which has played a pivotal role in my making a life for myself here in Britain. I very much feel part of the family and consider myself lucky to have worked with some of the fantastic people in management, faculty and staff.”

Over the years I have seen ICMP grow from a small, specialist conservatoire with just 300 students and a limited portfolio to a full-fledged higher education institution with over 1,000 students."

"That has been a source of immense pride and satisfaction and a testament to the hard work and vision of our Chief Executive (and owner) Paul Kirkham and his senior management team.”

Paul Kirkham, ICMP Chief Executive, said: “ICMP’s board unanimously approved Syra’s appointment as an Honorary Fellow of ICMP and we’re delighted she’s accepted the award.

Syra has been a brilliant ally and supporter of our work in music education and we're looking forward to continuing our relationship with her in this role as an ambassador for ICMP.”
