Congratulations to ICMP BA Creative Musicianship alumna Natalie Lindi who has been crowned winner of the prestigious Open Mic UK competition.

The 22 year-old singer songwriter was named the winner after impressing judges at the final with a performance of her original song, ‘Give It Time’.

Natalie’s experience includes playing live extensively in and around London as well as in the Netherlands for the Altersonic Festival. During her time with us, she took part in our Songwriters’ Circle event with Bruno Major while also performing for ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris when he visited ICMP

Talking to Open Mic UK about her victory, Natalie said:

Being part of Open Mic UK has been such an encouraging and exciting experience. I’ve met lots of friendly musicians through the competition and made some useful industry contacts too. Not to mention getting to perform at O2 Indigo.

"Being announced the winner on Saturday was really heartwarming. I also won ‘Best Song’ so coming home with two trophies was a great feeling."

She impressed a judging panel featuring Carrie Grant, BAFTA award-winning broadcaster, vocal coach and advocate, Capital Xtra DJ Ras Kwame and Chris Grayston, music consultant for Sony, Thames TV and The Voice.

Chris said: “Natalie has a unique way of conveying the emotional message of her music exceptionally well.

There were a lot of talented performers this year, but she’s really impressed us at every stage of the competition. A very worthy winner and we’re really looking forward to working with her in the future.”

Natalie's prize includes backing to produce her album, a video, £1,000 Spotify and radio promotion campaign from Music Gateway and a comprehensive consultation and development package.

By winning the Songwriting Award, Natalie will also take part in a four day songwriting camp.

The national singing competition is run by Future Music Management
