London-based, Singapore-born indie rock outfit Coming Up Roses, featuring four ICMP students and alumni, has announced a new tour of Asia.
The group is fronted by Emily Sera on vocals and bass (studying an MA Music Business at ICMP), Darius Oon on guitars (BMus Popular Music Performance Scholarship winner at ICMP) with Charlie Wilson (ex- ICMP student) on guitar and Caleb Blake on drums (BMus Popular Music Performance at ICMP).
The Back The Way We Came Tour will see the group make their way through Thailand, Taiwan and Japan before ending in their home country of Singapore. Support acts include yosi breakfast and nosedive as well as Darius' other band, The New Modern Lights.
It will be the first time the group has played in Thailand or Japan, while it will be Charlie and Caleb's first time in Asia
Commenting, Darius said:
It's always a thrill to play in a new city as we've found that there's so much to learn about the music and gig culture in different parts of the world and we have the privilege of getting to do that on tour."
"We have some amazing bands supporting us on every stop of this tour as well, so we're going to enjoy watching the gigs as much as we're going to enjoy playing them!"
The band first formed in Singapore in 2018 and spent years honing their skills as part of the guitar scene.
Currently, they are busy planning a November tour in the UK following their return from Asia alongside recording their debut album.
Audio Engineering and Production student Andrea Trevisan is producing with many of the songs being recorded and worked on at ICMP.
Darius said: "Our time at ICMP has allowed us a safe, collaborative space and has really enabled us to become a part of the London music scene."
We've formed so many of our key industry relationships right here in school, from producers we've worked with to finding our first London show through an alumni connection."
The band members also met due to their time at ICMP. Darius and Caleb both studied the same BMus in Popular Music Performance course while Charlie was recruited through the ICMP Facebook alumni page.
Continuing, Darius said: "The community element of ICMP is really strong and is probably our favourite aspect of life here alongside the amazing facilities that the school has on offer, which has allowed us to develop and focus on our craft as songwriters and musicians."
Darius added:
Our experience of London's music scene has been everything we expected and more - it's a vast and ever-expanding community with so many gigs and events happening every single night."
"It has also served as a means for us to expand our audience into Europe, where we've had the opportunity to play in Paris (at Supersonic in April 2024) and in Gibraltar in 2023. All this wouldn't have been possible, of course, without the great programmes and pathways that ICMP has on offer."
"In particular, the Ace Scholarship (which I received in 2022) was instrumental in making our move to the UK possible for us to evolve the band's career."
Congratulations to the band on the tour news!
