Whether you’re at the very start of your journey to a successful career in the music industry, or have been making music for years and are wondering how to make the next step up to make your passion into a job, our ICMP Summer Schools here in London could be the perfect way to hone your skills and start to make some real progression into the industry.

As well as being a great way to develop your skills and your performance confidence, our Summer Schools are perfect for meeting like-minded musicians and contacts within the industry, but above all else, they’re an opportunity to play and make music and have fun!

Our Summer School programme will be taking place this July, with three great courses covering Songwriting, Music Production and Music Performance.

The courses all take place here at our Kilburn campus and will each last five days, with tuition from not just our expert ICMP tutors, but also special guests from the music industry, with a chance to perform live on stage at the end of the course.

Attending summer schools is a great way to build up some experience and add to your CV and will be looked upon favourably when applying for jobs in the industry, which can, of course, be highly competitive.

You’ll also make new contacts and friends in the music business, which can be just as important as the skills and techniques that you’ll pick up during your time here.

Music Performance
(Monday 29th July - Friday 2nd August 2019)

One of our most popular Summer Schools, the Music Performance course gives you the opportunity to play and learn alongside fellow music lovers here at our cutting edge facilities in London.

This course focuses not just on improving your technical skills, but making you a more confident and accomplished live performer, with both solo and group workshops to help you improve your timing and cohesion when playing with a band, across multiple genres.

Once the course is over, you’ll be able to put everything that you’ve learnt over the course of the week into practice in a live performance where you can showcase your new skills.

The course is perfect for those who love playing but require a little more confidence before getting on stage, but you could also benefit even if you’re already a natural performer, giving you the chance to experiment and perhaps pick up some new tricks and techniques.

Music Production
(Monday 5th to Friday 9th August)

If you’d like to learn more about the production side of music and learn how to use the best industry standard software, then our Music Production Summer School is for you.

Using either Ableton Live or Logic Pro, you’ll work alongside other electronic music fans to hone techniques such as sampling, drum programming and mastering and will end up with the tools to create and master your very own tracks.

We offer the opportunity to choose which of the two programmes you’d like to work with for the week, with Ableton more suited to those who are used to producing electronic music and Logic for more traditional musicians, but the course is suitable for those from all backgrounds!

Overseen by our expert tutors, who have years of industry knowledge behind them, you’ll be taken through all of the techniques and processes used in music production, right from the basics to using samples and creating your own chord sequences and melodies and post-production, giving you all of the skills to create your own pieces.

Songwriting
(Monday 5th to Friday 9th August)

Finally, if you’d like to improve your writing and composition skills, our Songwriting Summer School is for you.

After a week of learning under our experienced team or tutors, you’ll create your own song, to be performed by a live band at the end of the week.

Featuring workshops covering various aspects of songwriting theory, you’ll then work with musicians to put that theory into practice and discover your own songwriting style and way of writing.
