Our Masters in Songwriting student Katherine Moynihan is one of the ICMP's community most exciting songwriting talents.

Alongside the likes of Jonas Grote and Truly Ford, Katherine is among our current crop of burgeoning new artists being nurtured within our London campus. We caught up with her earlier in the year to find out more about her musical journey, inspirations and influences.

At the same time, we also asked her to compile a Spotify playlist for our Selector series with her theme being 'secret songwriters', the musical creators who wield huge influence over popular music but often get overlooked.

Secret Songwriters

According to Katherine, 'this is a collection of tracks from from a mix of singer-songwriters and often-behind-the-scenes songwriting masters. Whether it’s the lyrics, melody or arrangement and production, these songs all inspire me to be a better songwriter. Make sure to check out the song credits to find out who the writers are.

Kate York is one of her favourite artists on the playlist.

Katherine says:

I love Kate York's versatility as a writer. Her artist project is gorgeous (All My Worry), but she was also one of the major writers for the TV show ‘Nashville’ writing both beautiful country songs and great pop. She has also had music on 'Grey's Anatomy' (which is 100 percent a dream of mine), and more recently worked with Lennon Stella on her pop banger 'BITCH'.

I definitely aspire to be that versatile and successful as a writer and think she’s an all round queen.

Follow Katherine on Instagram to keep up-to-date with her music.
