The ICMP Spotlight aims to support as many students and alumni as possible in their personal careers within the music industry.

Whether you'll be working on a musical, joining a cover band, starting out as a booking agent/artist manager/music journalist/etc, we want to know all about it and support you with any possible means.

Each month we present a student or graduate music project, making it our #ICMPSpotlight.

SuperFanCast • A Music Trivia Podcast
by BMus (Hons) Popular Music Performance (Bass) alumn Matt Crawley

BMus Popular Music Performance (Bass) alumn Matt Crawley spent his educational years prior to his time at ICMP playing bass and saxophone, saving money to undertake a higher education course in music performance.

Following his time with us building on his playing, performing, technical and theoretical skills, Matt has been involved in a wide range of projects - arranging for horn bands, playing bass in several covers bands, teaching music, and organising events to name a few.

“ICMP gave me a good foundation of skills and the confidence to be able to use them.”

Matt's current passion project is SuperFanCast, a music trivia podcast that allows super fans to show off their music knowledge and celebrate the industry created alongside his friend Chris. The project started out as an experiment between 2 friends as both were keen to keep musically productive as Covid restrictions meant fewer opportunities for gigging.

After building up a fan base through social media and reaching out to fan sites, SuperFanCast has gained a following that has surpassed Matt and co-host Chris’ expectations, allowing them to connect with lots of interesting people and have and develop an income stream doing something they enjoy.

Giving us a breakdown of the podcast, Matt explains:

It's a show for geeking out, discovering new music, and meeting interesting (and obsessive) individuals, all while having a laugh! Each episode looks at a different band or artist. After my co-host Chris and I have done our research, Chris acts as quiz master. We also test a super fan of the featured artist, and they share any anecdotes or facts of their own.

Please check us out! Are you super fan of a band or artist? Let us know and we might feature them (and you) on a future episode. We also post regular pieces of bizarre music trivia on our social media pages which can be found here.
