Joanna McGowan

Here at ICMP we are proud to support our students and alumni and always look forward to sharing their successes.

Every Tuesday we source the best new releases from our community and make them #ICMPSpotlight of the week.

This week we've chosen to shine a light on ICMP Songwriting alumna and tutor, Joanna McGowan.

ICMP SPOTLIGHT: 24TH SEPTEMBER

'WASTELAND BY JOANNA MCGOWAN

Joanna McGowan is a singer-songwriter as well as one of the tutors of our BA (Hons) Creative Musicianship course. Her passion for singing started at a young age, allowing her to tour New York, Rome and London in various choirs whilst studying for her GCSE exams. After studying musical theatre and appearing in amateur productions, her passion for writing was sparked by a week long musical workshop at the age of 14, and she quickly learnt to play the guitar and taught herself the piano.

'Wasteland' is a song about conflicted feelings about the places that raised you."

Produced by Jackson Dimiglio-Wood (The Libertines, Shawn Mendes), ‘Wasteland’ is one of four upcoming singles detailing the thoughts, friendships and experiences of a 20-Something navigating through adulthood.

Drawing inspiration from artists such as Sara Bareilles, Coldplay and Train, Joanna’s latest single is something you can easily relate to through its intimate crafted melodies and honest, powerful lyrics.

Keep up to date with Joanna McGowan on Facebook and Instagram.

Listen to our Spotlight 2019 Spotify playlist, including 'Wasteland' and more releases by ICMP students/alumni.
