ICMP is delighted to announce a new partnership with Music Production for Women (MPW), an initiative aiming to empower female and non-binary artists to learn how to produce in a safe and encouraging environment.

The collaboration has stemmed from ICMP's Music Production school looking to address the imbalance in gender equality within the world of music production.

The Misogyny in Music report, published in January 2024, highlighted how women and non-binary professionals are underrepresented across the industry.

The publication stated: "The music industry and government should increase investment in diverse talent and make more funding available to the schemes that support it. Pathways to careers for women working in the sector must improve, particularly in key gatekeeping roles such as A&R and other male-dominated areas including sound engineering and production."

Lucy Bernstein, ICMP's Associate Dean for Student Engagement, said: "At the forefront of thinking at the School of Music Production is increasing the visibility and presence of women and non-binary music producers. This is not just from our tutor perspective but also to students, to demonstrate how ICMP is a safe space in which they can develop their careers.”

Our ambitions are to promote our community, its inclusivity and diversity as well as showing how ICMP is welcoming and accepting of all, and is working to address the imbalances that exist."

Xylo Aria, artist, producer and founder of MPW, said: "MPW is proud to be partnering with ICMP to support their commitment to enabling increased diversity in the production space. Look out for future collaborations to come to better support you all!"

A recent report from Fix the Mix illustrates the disparities in music production - women and non-binary people claimed less than five percent of producer and engineer credits across the top 50 streamed songs in 2022.
