ICMP Music Production tutor Leslie Gaston-Bird has recently published ‘Women in Audio’, a  book celebrating the achievements of female sound and studio engineers.

Over eight chapters, the work explores the achievements of women in various audio professions, then examines the organisations and music industry bodies set up to support and train women in the industry.

Commenting, Leslie said:

“The book features 100 profiles of women in audio.

The motivation to write the book came as I saw the emerging groups launching to support women in the business and felt compelled to provide some historical and contemporary context.”

Professor Louise Jackson, ICMP's Assistant Dean, said: "The scholarship presented in Women in Audio is a wonderful corrective to typical narratives regarding the participation of women in contemporary music and especially within production. This text demonstrates how women have been forging opportunities in male-dominated environments, as opposed to what we are usually told in regards to there being no women in audio, which is lazy and evidently not true!

We are fortunate to have someone such as Leslie as part of the ICMP teaching faculty, and I hope 'Women in Audio' inspires our students and colleagues alike.”
