Congratulations to ICMP's Dean Jonathan Whiskerd on the forthcoming release of his new album, 'Even the Best of Us Need Rescuing Sometimes'.
The songs were recorded in 2012 and 2013 after Jonathan was sent to write in Texas by an indie label.
Only one track from the sessions - 'Blind Belief' - was ever released.
After the single came out, and following two promotional tours, unresolved mental health issues led to Jonathan taking a break from performing. Instead, he devoted his time to songwriting education and co-writing.
Commenting, he said: "Having now understood what got me into difficulty all those years ago, I am excited to finally share this album."
The songs are a series of conversations with friends, partners and family members; they represent the person I was then."
Eight of the tracks were co-produced with Bruce Hughes in Austin, Texas. The other four were co-produced with Paul Stanborough in London with co-writing from ICMP's Head of Songwriting Sophie Daniels. Ben Jones, ICMP's Senior Programme Manager for Music Performance, played bass on the record.
On Instagram, Jonathan said: "Thank you to everyone who worked on this record and who has supported me over many years. There will be new, new music next year; let's get this one done first!"
Jonathan has over 20 years' experience as a songwriter and recording artist. He has worked with writer-producers Joshua Blair (Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars), Sophie Daniels (Joelle Moses, Westlife), Paul Stanborough (Guy Chambers, Cathy Dennis), Bruce Hughes (Jason Mraz) and Igor Haefeli (Daughter) in both the UK and the US.
He will be celebrating the release of the album at the Camden Club on 26th October.
At this special, one-off show, Jonathan will share the story behind the album, why it's been hidden away for so long, and the inspiration behind the songs. He'll also perform songs he has written for other artists, as well as fresh material due for release next year.
The album will be released on 26th October 2024. Get tickets to the launch event:
