ICMP tutor Dr Rich Perks will be among a number of leading experts heading to Hong Kong in July 2019 to speak at an international conference exploring the latest groundbreaking guitar research.

As a guitarist, composer and educator, Rich explores anything musically unusual, progressive and innovative.

He is one of the world’s leading exponents of the fretless electric guitar; his debut album ‘Imposition’ received critical acclaim, and his music has been performed globally. Rich also has extensive experience as a session musician – performing much commercial, contemporary, experimental, improvised and world music

Commenting on his forthcoming trip to Asia, Rich said:

It's very exciting to be presenting my work on the fretless electric guitar at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts' International Guitar Forum this year. The International Guitar Research Centre are doing some really excellent work disseminating cutting-edge, guitar-based research globally, and it's great to be a part of it."

"I'm really looking forward to demonstrating all the unusual and cool noises you can produce on the fretless electric guitar to an audience of internationally acclaimed guitar experts."

As well as being a key member of our teaching faculty, Rich is also a graduate of ICMP back when it was known as the London's Guitar Institute.

Alongside his forthcoming trip to Hong Kong, he will be performing with his band vLookup Trio as one of the main acts at the Dutch Fretless Guitar Festival (11th-12th May 2019) alongside some of the world's most prolific fretless guitarists.
