ICMP has successfully hosted its first ever Virtual Careers Festival featuring some of the music industry’s leading professionals, labels and businesses.

Inspired by the Covid19 lockdown and accompanying social distancing measures, ICMP's Careers and Industry Hub quickly put together a programme of career webinars and 1:2:1 sessions with leading industry figures.

Running from 4th-8th May, students and alumni had the opportunity to learn from industry professionals, expand their professional networks, apply for jobs and equip themselves for career progression.

Webinar sessions covered a wide range of topics included music publishing, writing and producing for artists and writing music for film, TV and games.

Representatives from some of the music industry's most successful businesses offered their advice. Participating companies included the likes of Universal Music Publishing, AWAL, Kobalt Music, Concord Music Publishing and Phrased Differently.

James Brister, Industry Liaison Manager, said:  "We were delighted with the success of our first ever Virtual Careers Festival.

The impact of the Covid 19 lockdown meant we had to think very differently about how we could support our students in taking the next steps in their music industry careers. But the fantastic levels of engagement from the student body and great feedback from our industry guests both showed how taking the event online worked very effectively."

The week certainly proved to be a hit with the ICMP community. Almost 900 students and alumni registered for 1,000 available places while all 91 of the1:2:1 sessions available were taken up by those looking for more insight and advice around their careers.

Some anonymous pieces of feedback included:

"The speakers had excellent experience and conveyed a sensible ways of develop income streams within the music business."

Another said:

"It challenged me to think out of the box. It introduced me to career and business options I hadn't considered before."
