Spotlight Artist Huru

Here at ICMP we are proud to support our community and always look forward to sharing their successes.

Every Tuesday we source the best new releases from our students, alumni and tutors and make them #ICMPSpotlight of the week.

This time we've chosen to shine a light on BASW alumna HURU.

With her unique sound which she calls Cosmic RnB, HURU returns bigger than ever rounding off 2019 with her heartwarming reflective single 'Elsewhere'. Back from an inspiring trip to Malaysia, during which she collaborated with multiple local artists, HURU is now back to the UK to work on new creative projects.

London-based singer/songwriter HURU is one of the best black British artists to come out of the UK in the last two years. With her avant-garde style and aesthetic, she draws you in with her aura and soothing vocals.” - Nusoulhub Radio, South Africa

Her soulful and passionate vocals, poetic lyricism, matched with atmospheric electronic sounds, subtly nod at a late 90's neo-soul era. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Solange, Jhené Aiko, India Arie, Thundercat and Jill Scott, the London-born, Kenyan-Jamaican artist HURU strives to take her listeners on a journey to free their minds and express themselves fearlessly and boldly.

Taken from her imminent project ‘Euphoria’, the new track was written, produced and performed by HURU herself.

"It portrays a moment of clarity, a feeling of oneness with self and gratitude for the present moment. With the holidays just around the corner, people want to feel connected and surrounded by love and not elsewhere," she says.
