We were delighted to welcome the brilliant songwriter Ben Earle from British country sensation The Shires to our Songwriters’ Circle.
Held in the intimate venue of the Rosslyn Hill Chapel in Hampstead, Ben was part of a circle hosted by tutor Hannah Rose Platt. Featuring alongside Ben Earle were ICMP graduate Kaity Rae, and current students Izzie Naylor and Conor Riley. These writers presented their songs and the stories around them, reflecting the ethos behind the original Nashville writers’ rounds.
Commenting on the event, Ben said:
Songwriters' Circle is great - as the audience, you get to hear how these songs were originally conceived whether that be on the guitar and piano. That’s exciting as often you hear these big productions and you can forget about the song behind it all. It’s also a privilege to be so close to the performer - there’s nothing like it."
Connor Riley said:
It’s a fantastic event in telling the story behind the song. It feels more special in the way everyone can get involved and is much more satisfying than a standard gig."
Songwriters' Circle is a monthly event ICMP hosts offering our students and alumni the opportunity to gain experience performing alongside high-profile artists such as Ben. Previous guests have included Ed Harcourt, Frank Turner and The Dunwells.
Our next event will take place on 23rd April with our Songwriting alumna Elena Tonra. Watch out for our video round up of the night with Ben Earle.
