Congratulations to ICMP Masters in Songwriting student Sarah Shawcross for winning the Pop Award at the Indie International Songwriting competition.

Sarah’s song - 'Love I Never Wanted' - was awarded first place in this year's contest.

Although Sarah has entered in the past, this is the first time her music has been placed in the top three by the judges.

Commenting, Sarah said: "I've been working hard at my songwriting craft this year, focusing on redrafting until I believe my song is the best it can be."

"Winning this contest and getting validation from the judges at Indie International means a great deal to me and has given me the impetus to continue to challenge myself with my songwriting moving forward."

The song was written as part of the Lyrics Module portfolio. It was inspired by a piece of art in a gallery that Sarah saw and used to test the Ekphrasis songwriting technique.

The course at ICMP has been transformational for me - writing a song a week, sharing with my peers on a regular basis and being encouraged to redraft has led to my best work to date."
