ICMP to host Ableton Jam with Crux

Calling electronic music fans and producers - ICMP is teaming up with electronic audio and visual experts and promoters Crux to host an Ableton Link Jam.

Taking place on Thursday 14 September in our Audient Studio, the event capitalises on Ableton's 'Link' capability and will see multiple musicians collaborate via laptops and Ableton's Push interface.

Hosted by the Crux team, including certified Ableton tutor Marcello Ruggiu and Ableton Live expert and music/video tech tutor Nick Feldman, the event offers an exciting opportunity for selected ICMP student participants to experiment and improvise with professional Ableton musicians.

Ableton's Link has been a game changer for electronic musicians, as it means they are no longer dependent on midi to collaborate. Instead, Link establishes a network using WiFi that participants can join. Each machine is sync'd by the network, meaning if the originating machine falls out, the network remains in place for all devices. Alongside collaborative opportunities, the technology provides a solid back-up solution for musicians performing live.

Commenting, the Crux team said:

Many enthusiasts of electronic music still see the capital of the UK as a key player in the global music scene, but on arrival they would be disappointed not to find many forward-thinking venues, particularly nightclubs, or semblance of a scene that could seemingly forge the ground-breaking new music the city is renowned for."

These on-the-spot live performance of electronic music and video, mostly rehearsed and sometimes improvised, fills that gap and quenches that thirst. It is music that due to its ephemeral and untamed nature ensures new and exhilarating combinations of sound and light are created and, when it pays off, this risk-taking makes for some special moments for both artists and audience."

Limited places will be available for students looking to take part. Please get in touch via marketing@icmp.ac.uk to apply. Successful participants will be contacted with more information on the event.
