Congratulations to ICMP alumnus Joe Edwards who is among the latest recipients of support from Help Musicians UK’s Transmission Fund.

Joe is one of more than 40 musicians and artists announced as winners of backing from the venture.

This year's cohort of supported artists will embark on a short period of training and/or mentoring with a leading expert in their field, adapted to the current climate of social distancing.

Commenting on winning the support, Joe said:

"My application was focused on developing myself as a freelancer in the two areas my career has predominantly moved into (composition and music production) and how I can use the skills learnt in my development to support the north-east arts sector."

For me, this kind of support from Help Musicians is tremendously important as I feel I’ve now reached a point in my career where I want to refine my skills."

Currently based in Newcastle, Joe was previously a member of hardcore band Shields. Now he focuses on composition and music production, working across a variety of different projects including a new band and music for a live events company.

The award will see Joe receive 1:1 sessions with Moritz Wanger (a fellow ICMP alumni) for composition, and George Lever (G1 Productions) for audio production.

Commenting on his move from London to Newcastle, Joe said:

"The north-east is a fairly unrecognised area of the national arts community.

There are less paid opportunities for professional creatives up here, so the only other option is to create work and opportunities for yourself and your peers to build your career upon. This, I believe is a blessing in disguise. It’s great starting point for building your business skills in application writing."

Well done again to Joe on being named as a recipient of the support. Look out for an interview with him on the ICMP blog
