ICMP’s Careers and Industry Hub is to launch two new initiatives aimed at providing students with professional music industry experience to help them kick start their careers.

The Industry Placement Programme and Mentoring Scheme are designed by the Careers and Industry Hub to match students with appropriate opportunities based on their interests and career goals.

They are part of a commitment by the team to increase support available to students matching with Access and Participation criteria after successfully pitching for required funding.

Commenting, Oli Tatler, Careers & Employability Manager, said:

We’re excited for our students to take advantage of the extensive music industry networks of our team and enjoy experience in professional working environments.”

“We know gaining this kind of industry experience alongside their studies can be an an essential step in their careers and we’re looking forward to seeing how they can apply what they’ve learned with us in these settings.”

The Industry Mentoring Scheme

The Industry Mentoring Scheme will match five final year degree students with industry professionals in their areas of interest for 10 hours of mentoring during and after their final semester.

Successful applicants to the programme will receive expert guidance and feedback from industry professionals as well as the opportunity to build their professional networks.

The Industry Placement Programme

The hub will organise paid short-term internships for successful second year degree applicants. Students in their second year of a degree level programme will be best placed to utilise their final year to source graduate opportunities having gained this experience. They will be allocated appropriate opportunities in line with their specific areas of interest.

The two schemes run alongside the team’s other initiatives to support ICMP students into music industry careers.

These include A&R sessions with major and indie labels and industry panels where students can get advice on how to find a manager, label and publisher or panel sessions and events featuring representatives from the likes of Universal, Columbia, Polydor and Dirty Hit.
