ICMP has partnered with the Association of Independent Music to deliver an Industry Placement Programme designed to offer practical industry experience to students from under-represented backgrounds.

As part of the programme, successful second year degree students matching the criteria were partnered with an AIM member company based on their areas of interest and complete a paid short-term, part-time placement over the summer.

AIM is an industry trade body representing the UK’s independent music sector including self-releasing artists, distributors and indie labels.

Oli Tatler, ICMP’s Careers & Employability Manager, said:

Getting professional experience at the start of your career is key for developing transferable skills and making those all-important connections that can help unlock future opportunities."

The students and their placements were:

  • Iason Everitt, Project Coordinator Assistant at Rough Bones
  • Francesca Sutera, Record Label Assistant at TenWest
  • Chinaire Austin, Management Assistant at Safe Music Management (pictured above).

Commenting,Chinaire said:

There are so many things I learned during the placement. I learned how to negotiate certain contracts, how to construct producer agreements, how to register songs with PROs, I grew my network."

"It was amazing to have the chance to learn this, then apply to my own practice."

Well done to all the students who took part and watch the video round up detailing their experiences below.

The scheme is expected to run again with details to be announced to students via Careers+ and our ICMPLife social media channels.
