Ace, ICMP's Head of Business Development and Industry Partnerships, was among the speakers at the inaugural Parallel Music Conference in Southampton.

Held at Solent University, Ace was joined by Goat Girl bassist and vocalist Holly Mullineaux (aka H.L.Grail) to speak on a panel entitled, 'Method to Music Creation: Production and Songwriting'.

With the discussion hosted by production student Luke Matthews, Ace shared his songwriting and production techniques reflecting on the past 30 years with UK rock band Skunk Anansie

Holly shared the secrets behind the last three Goat Girl records, their collective creative process in the studio and how the band chooses producers.

Parallel Music Conference was created by Matthew Bisgrove as well as Jamie Ford, who is also Head of Artist and Label Services at BYTA. The business is an ICMP industry partner and offer free solo accounts to our student and staff body.

Commenting on the event, Jamie Ford said:

Creating a music industry conference in Southampton is something we've wanted to do and partner on for years. There is so much existing creativity in the city to harness and show off to the rest of the country."

"There are also so many more opportunities we could be opening up by bringing the nationwide music industry here to deliver insights and network."

Ace commented: "It's always great to support up and coming musicians and the new wave of industry practitioners, and the Southampton students were so engaged and receptive. The panel was lively, spontaneous and interactive. I also think it's really important to support our own industry partners in new ventures and initiatives they are creating too."

The event was held at Solent University as Jamie and Matt are alumni of the music courses there.

Other panels and workshops included insights from Will Gould of Creeper, as well as advice on releasing, building your team and marketing your music as well as a local music industry networking session.
