Jason Bavanandan is a songwriter, composer, and multi-instrumentalist with over a decade’s experience working with major record labels. Mentored by some of the top producers in the country, he also holds formal diplomas from Victoria College of Music.
Jason began his career while still at university. As the singer and songwriter in the band Battle, he was scouted and signed by independent label maverick Simon Williams of Fierce Panda (Coldplay, Keane). He was then signed to Warner Records by Korda Marshall (Muse, alt-J, Ash) and to EMI Publishing by Guy Moot and Mike Smith. Battle released two albums, enjoyed chart success, and recorded live sessions at both Radio 1 and Xfm. They toured throughout Europe and America and performed at many of the UK’s biggest festivals, including Reading and Leeds, T in the Park, Latitude, Radio 1’s Big Weekend, and Wireless.
With dedicated mentoring by Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence and the Machine); Danton Supple (Coldplay); Ben Hiller (U2, Blur); Dave McCracken (Alicia Keys, Ian Brown); Gareth Jones (Depeche Mode); and Hugo Nicolson (Primal Scream), Jason is now a professional songwriter, signed to Sony/ATV, the world’s largest publishing company. His 2015 album, Whiplash, became ‘the first cinematically-released album in history’. Composed, performed, and orchestrally scored entirely by Jason himself, the album is the inspiration, soundtrack and sole narrative to a British feature film charting the dissolution of a couple’s relationship over twelve months in twelve songs.
