Linett Kamala is a music business practitioner and currently lectures on the BA (Hons) Live Event and Festival Management programme.

Linett has been involved in music since childhood and is credited as being one of the first female DJs to perform at the iconic Notting Hill Carnival, aged just 15, in the early 1980s.

She is now one of the organisers of the event, which has an audience of up to 2 million people, and serves as Board Director. She champions the next generation of musical and creative talent and the inclusion of underrepresented groups within sound system culture as well as regenerative approaches to festivals.

Linett is Founding Director of Lin Kam Art which enriches lives through festival culture via residencies, workshops, events, lectures and programmes. 

Deeply rooted in community empowerment, her socially engaged creative practice engages with thousands of people each year and ranges from mentoring emerging creatives to leading production for micro festivals.

In addition, Linett is an Interdisciplinary artist, DJ and creative producer, spanning three decades - her collaborations have included Rio Loco Festival (France), Mayor of London, Google Arts and Culture, Spotify, ULTRA Festival (South Africa), We Out Here Festival (UK) and numerous cultural institutions/organisations such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS

Linett’s career highlights include: establishing the South Kilburn Studios which provided the foundation for global success for the band Clean Bandit and numerous creatives, launching the Original Sounds Collective which develops more women into leadership at Notting Hill Carnival with support from Guinness and the Lin Kam Art Sound System Futures Programme which is developing the next generation of leads in sound system culture.
