I’m Gareth Spicer, your programme leader, and I’m thrilled that you’ve accepted your place here. The ICMP team and I look forward to working with you, helping you become the producer you aspire to be, and building the foundations of your professional career in music.

About your BA (Hons) Audio Engineering and Production

The ICMP BA (Hons) Audio Engineering and Production degree is an industry-focused, practice-based programme that helps you to become proficient in using high-tech hardware and software in an industry-standard, professional recording studio environment. 

Over the next three years, we will guide you through a range of modules designed to help you become the best professional audio engineer or music producer you can possibly be. You will become proficient with advanced technical skills to confidently work in any studio environment, and your expert tutors will work to develop your critical and analytical skills, all while building professional networks, entrepreneurial skills and new employment and career opportunities. 

The course is highly collaborative; studying at ICMP will give you the chance to meet and collaborate with like-minded creatives. You will have access to the Careers and Industry Hub, ICMP’s dedicated industry connectivity team, who will work with you to provide and develop exciting and valuable industry opportunities and training. By the time you complete your studies, you should be well equipped to go ahead and forge your professional recording studio career as an audio engineer or music producer.

Equipment Checklist

Recommended Equipment 

  • A laptop – preferably a MacBook Pro with an industry-standard DAW installed: Pro Tools, Logic Pro or Ableton Live 
  • A microphone – SM57 is a good all rounder 
  • An audio interface 
  • Headphones 

Don’t forget, as an ICMP student you’ll have access to exclusive discounts from leading music manufacturers, so if you’re thinking of buying new equipment (from computers to instruments), it’s worth waiting until you start with us.
