ICMP was delighted to welcome winners of the Song Academy 2019 competition for a day of recording.

Skye Bishop and Sophie Griffiths were two of the three winners from this year’s 10th anniversary event.

As part of their prize, both young musicians had the opportunity to spend the day recording with ICMP Music Production tutor Charlie Thomas in our studios.

ICMP and the Song Academy have enjoyed a great partnership over the years with ICMP alumni not only teaching at the academy but judging the hundreds of entries received by the competition.

Half of the judging panel are also ICMP affiliated including Head of Songwriting Sophie Daniels joining the likes of stars Tom Odell and Chris Difford in spotting the top talents.

Charlie Thomas said: "It was a fantastic day in the studio with Skye and Sophie, who are both very talented and deserved winners of the Song Academy competition.

Their songs are expertly written with a sense of maturity, addressing topics that many more songwriters should be talking about today. If this is the standard to expect, the future of music is in safe hands!"

Skye was named the winner of the eight to 12 year-old category with her song 'Sneaks & Geeks' while Sophie won the 13-18 year-old category with 'Beauty'.

The Young Songwriter competition unites creative young songwriters around the world giving them a unique platform for expressing themselves, getting their latest songs heard & connecting to future collaborators.

Our vibrant community represents the next generation of songwriters and creative leaders. I’m delighted that ICMP are supporting The Young Songwriter competition as they are leaders in contemporary music education."
