The Institute is delighted to announce the winning band for its Camden Rocks Competition is ‘Shoulders of Giants’ from Fontys Rockacademie, Holland.
The winning band will perform as guests on the Institute’s own stage at the renowned Camden Rocks Festival taking place in Camden, London on Saturday 31st May. They will play alongside four other Institute acts including alumni Cypher 16 and Rise to Remain (tbc) with Sam Duckworth (Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.) headlining the stage. This year the festival will see over 200 bands play in 20 venues to around 8000 attendees.
The competition was open to any student band from any school within the Institute Partner Network, with the proviso they had to fit the theme of the festival, namely rock, metal, alternative and punk. Each school submitted a video for the band it chose to compete; these entries were selected down to four finalists, from which Skunk Anansie’s guitarist, Ace chose the final winner.
There was an amazing array of entries with almost every partner submitting a band for the competition, and the standard was universally high. Ace was impressed by the overall quality of the bands he saw, commenting “I think they're all good and worthy of it, and would do a good show”. However, reaching a decision, he added “But for me, I would go with Shoulders of Giants. I think this is the best overall package. They look cool and coordinated as a band, with a good modern image. It’s a good song and playing to go with it, and with a good sound. I don't think this lot will let you down".
The Institute would like to thank all the partners and bands who entered. Rest assured, we will do this and other such events again.
