Shooting Suns, featuring songwriting student Ceri Jones are an alternative soft rock band from Cambridge. Formed in September 2012, they have established themselves on the music scene in Cambridge, particularly within the university, playing regular gigs at student events, from stripped down sets in pubs and bars to playing on the much larger stages at the May Balls, alongside artists such as Ella Eyre, Dog is Dead, Spector, and Toploader. Their music is full of driving piano riffs, and lush boy-girl harmonies from James and Ceri.
They have spent the last few months working on their debut release, ‘Overload EP’. Recorded partly at the studio in The Institute and partly at home, and produced by Edward from the band, this four track EP was released on the 30th May. The band are already working on a follow up, and are aiming to develop their sound with more electronic elements.
Over the last year they have received a lot of support from BBC Introducing in Cambridge, and were invited into the studio last week to do a live session and interview, where they played 2 live tracks, ‘Icarus’, from 'Overload EP', and the never heard before ‘Overload Part 2’, as well as playing out ‘Overload' from the EP, and having a chat with Tom Simkins.
You can listen again to the session here until Saturday
