We are delighted to announce the winner of this year’s ICMP “Drum and Win” competition in collaboration with Shure UK: Léo Martin, who is currently a second-year student on our BA Creative Musicianship course and drummer for Trailer Trash Tracys, who will be going on tour this upcoming September, is now the proud owner of a fantastic PG-Alta drum microphone recording kit!
What is ICMP Drum & Win?
"ICMP Drum & Win" is a challenging contest organised by ICMP in partnership with Shure. Shure have been providing high quality microphones and audio electronics to the music industry for over 90 years, becoming one of the leading brands in the sector: the legendary SM58 has been the most popular microphone in the world, revered for its natural sound and famed durability. Shure has also been a strong partner for ICMP for a long time, providing the school with microphones and associated equipment, participating in activities such as our Freshers Week and sponsoring events such as last year’s Live + Loud Festival.
This competition commenced earlier this year and was open to anyone aged 16 or more. Every participant needed to upload a video of themselves playing along to a track, which was specifically designed and produced by ICMP drum tutor Darren Ashford, an active educator for Shure’s Drum Mastery series of workshops.
Several ICMP drum tutors were responsible for judging the entrants, and they were looking for a performance that could deliver both craft and originality in different music genres. The level of entries was very high and the final decision was not easy, but the judges felt that Léo’s performance was the stand-out entry thanks to his experimental ideas and obvious talent.
What they said
Léo was naturally really pleased to receive his prize and said he is definitely going to experiment with the kit in order to record some sample ideas for the project he is working on at the moment as a producer, Eyva.
Paul Kirkham, Chief Executive at ICMP, said: ‘Congratulations to Léo, really a worthy winner! And particular thanks to our long-time partner Shure for supporting this competition, we are really proud to be working with them and to be associated with such a highly respected and successful name in the music industry.’
Bells Driver, Market Development Executive at Shure Pro-Audio Group, said: ‘We are delighted to award Léo with the well-deserved prize of a PG Alta Drum Kit 6 studio and live microphone kit. Shure and ICMP have a long and notable partnership. We look forward to continuing supporting this partnership and the ICMP students.’
