Festival Sign

As the days get longer and (hopefully) sunnier, shorts and flip-flops are replacing jackets and scarves, and any square inch of grass will have at least three sun-bathers spread across it, it can only mean that the Great British Summer is upon us, and with it, festival season! As with every year, the Institute is proud to have students and alumni representing us at festivals all over the country.

At the Isle of Wight Festival (11th to the 14th of June) there will be performances from our own Tunnel to Tunnel Festival headliners The Carnabys, who are hitting the Hard Rock Stage, as well as performances from our girl ABI on not one or two, but three different stages! Rounding off the Institute acts will be international star and alumna Foxes.

The godfather of festivals, Glastonbury, will also see representation from the Institute this year. Singer-songwriter and alumna Denai Moore will be making her Glasto’ debut, following the release of her debut album earlier this year. Ballin' Jacks, who feature an Institute student in their line-up, are set to hit both the Strummerville and Rocket Lounge areas of the festival. Rive, made up of Ceri Jones and Natascha Polke, will be hitting the Fluffy Rock Cafe on Saturday, followed by singer-songwriter Lee Rahn, who's also performing at Henry's Beard Cafe on Friday. Behind the scenes, the backing band of Ella Eyre is made up of Natasha Stewart and Elize Kellman on backing vocals, and David Baker on bass, all hailing from the Institute. Another Institute alum, Jack Cowens, can be seen providing the drums for Dub Pistols. Luke Patterson, drummer for mega-stars Clean Bandit, and Arni Arnason, bassist for The Vaccines, will also be making appearances.

Another Institute student, Lauren Johnson, will be doing the backing vocals for singer-songwriter KWABS, appearing at several festivals across the summer including both Reading and Leeds.

If songwriters are your thing, then Bingley Music Live (4th to the 6th of September) might be the festival for you. Alumni Natasha North and Mike Dignam, both accomplished singer-songwriters, will be making appearances at the Yorkshire music festival.

If you missed any of the bands at our very own festival, Tunnel to Tunnel, then don’t worry, Retrospective for Love and WSFB will both be hitting festivals over the summer months. Retrospective will be playing at Kendal Calling (30th of July to the 2nd of August), and WSFB will be bringing their Parliament/Funkadelic tribute to TribFest in East Yorkshire (20th to the 23rd of August).
