Guthrie Govan Masterclass | ICMP London

Great news for all guitar players - in November 2017, virtuosic rock/fusion guitarist and legend Guthrie Govan will be here to speak to ICMP students as part of an amazing masterclass hosted by ICMP.

One of the greatest guitarists around

Guthrie is arguably the most exciting and significant new guitarist to emerge in the scene in many years. He is a brilliant artist who is at home in a variety of musical genres and styles, able to record epic guitar solos in single takes – as seen for example on tracks by Steve Wilson (Porcupine Tree). Guthrie has recorded and toured with acts ranging all the way from melodic rock (Asia) to grime (Dizzee Rascal). His guitar and bass work for Replay Heaven (a sample recreation company) has graced hit singles by the likes of Gotye, The Sugababes, Cee Lo Green and Tinie Tempah. He continues to tour and record extensively around the world with rock-fusion power trio The Aristocrats and Hans Zimmer Live.

Improvisation, technique and tone generation

The event will be of interest to any guitarist or guitar student, regardless of stylistic preferences. Some students, who will be joining ICMP in September, will get to see Guthrie for the first time, whilst others will be lucky enough to experiencing a return visit. Guthrie is now a regular visitor to ICMP!

As always, the content will predominantly be dictated by questions from the audience with typical topics including improvisation/note choice, efficient playing techniques, ear development and tone generation. This will be interspersed with Guthrie’s fantastic demo performances, played to backing tracks from albums by Guthrie and the Aristocrats trio.

Who can attend:

Whilst the masterclass is primarily a free event for all ICMP students and alumni, a limited number of spaces will be made available to the public.
