Chart-topping singer and rapper Example and a host of high level music industry guests visited the ICMP, sharing their experiences of how to make a successful life in the music business.
We also hosted a number of panels with guests from the top level of the music industry. Mike Smith, Vice-President of A&R at Virgin/EMI, who throughout his career has signed artists such as Kings of Leon, PJ Harvey, The White Stripes and The Arctic Monkeys, was on our Artist Management panel. Along with Diane Wagg, owner of Ideal Music and Deluxxe Management, and Toby L, co-founder of Transgressive Records, Mike talked to ICMP students about the complexities of getting a record deal and what management companies look for in an artist.
Our alumni panel featured a number of ICMP graduates that have gone on to have successful careers in the music industry. Louise Bartle, who drums for Bloc Party, Nathan Albert, keyboard player and Musical Director for MNEK, Cheri Jones, a songwriter who was recently featured on Later with Jools Holland, and Victoria Becks, an artist manager for Tileyard, gathered to talk to current students about how their time at the Institute contributed to their success, and how to make the most of their time at the ICMP.
Our Careers Day was organised by our Hub team, a dedicated careers service that provides ICMP students with strong links to the music industry, including organising auditions and A&R sessions, and providing job and performance opportunities.
