With festival season upon us, Institute students past and present are gracing the stages of the UK’s biggest festivals.
Chinese Missy, including drummer and degree student Tom Moore and Higher Diploma graduate Richard Bond performed at heavy rock festival Download.
At the Isle of Wight festival singer/songwriter Natasha North graced the Strongbow Stage. As did alumni band the Carnabys who will continue their summer tour supporting Blondie around the UK. The Institute’s student president Callum Grant-Cawdell played the BAMusic Stage with Karyna Ellis (2014 Roundhouse Rising Star award winner).
Glastonbury included performances from Songwriting graduate Polly Money, on the BBC Introducing stage making her debut appearance at the UK’s largest festival. On the Pyramid Stage, accompanying Ella Eyre, were students and backing vocalists Natasha Stewart and Elize Kellman, as a result of auditions organised by the Institute’s careers department ‘THE HUB’. Natasha returned to the festival for a second year after providing backing vocals for Rita Ora in 2013.
Institute alumni Foxes and Luke Patterson of Clean Bandit have both had an astronomical year of Grammy awards (Clarity - Zedd feat. Foxes) and Number 1 singles (Rather Be – Clean Bandit). They are performing at T in the Park, Wireless and V Festival alongside fellow Diploma graduate Etta Bond who will also be playing Lovebox and Wireless.
If you’re more accustomed to the smaller, independent scene you can head to the picturesque location of Festival Number 6 in North Wales’ Portmeirion and see Songwriting graduate Denai Moore. Or you can stay in Wales but head South for the Brecon Beacons’ Green Man Festival where you can see another Songwriting alumna, Elena Tonra who will be playing with fellow graduates Igor Haefeli and Remi Aguilella more widely known as the band Daughter.
