Find out how to improve your performance skills with ICMP tutor Ben Jones.

What to expect from the event

This online session will be hosted by the Programme Leader for the BMus Popular Music Performance curse, Ben Jones.

Ben will introduce you to how we approach music performance at ICMP.  You'll pick up some great insight and advice around stagecraft, musicality and what to expect from our BMus (Hons) Popular Music Performance degree and HNC Music Performance course

Reflection and analysis are the cornerstones of a modern professional musician's practice and are fundamental for personal development. Throughout the pandemic, our students have been engaging in interactive seminars that build these skills and help apply them to their own personal goals.

This session will provide you with an opportunity to begin to develop your own critical understanding of performance practice and how it can feed into improving your own performances.

Optional feedback available

The session is also a chance to receive feedback on your performance skills from Ben. We appreciate that not everyone will want to do this, so it's completely optional. But if you do want to take advantage of this offer, simply include a link to your video in the sign-up form below.

Meet Ben Jones

Ben Jones is a talented bassist with over ten years’ experience playing live and on television before crowds in the tens of thousands.

As an alumna, turned ICMP Programme Leader, Ben has an unparalleled view of the learning journey of today's contemporary music student.

Since graduating from our BMus in Popular Music Performance, his career has taken him into the studios with some of the world's best producers, on the stages of the UK's biggest venues as well as honing his musical chops with a great array of players.

Now his career has come full circle as he's the Programme Leader of the course he completed as a student, and in a great position answer any questions you might have.

Our next online taster session will take place via Zoom on Monday 26th April (5pm–6.30pm).
