Legendary Grammy award-winning producer Gary Katz will be visiting The Institute for one day only.
Gary, who produced all the Steely Dan albums up until 2000, will be holding 3 sessions throughout the day.
Critique and Feedback Session
12:00pm - 2:00pm
Selected students will perform or play original work to Gary who will then offer feedback relating to writing, arranging, performance and production.
Students may only present finished refined work during this session. This may be in recorded format or performed live.

N.B. There are only 11 spaces available for this session due to the capacity of the recording studio so students are encouraged to submit work asap.
Inside the A&R Process
4:00pm - 5:00pm
Gary will be discussing his work and previous experience in an A&R capacity when he worked at Warner Bros. N.B. It was during this period that Prince was signed to the label!
Students are encouraged to come to this session with business-focused questions and areas for discussion.
In Conversation with Gary Katz – Producing the music of Steely Dan
7:00pm - 9:00pm
Programme Leader Atar Shafighian will interview Gary and discuss his role as producer with Jazz-Rock legends Steely Dan.
This session will provide an opportunity to get inside the processes that lie at the heart of such a long-term production and artist development relationship.
