Diwali is a five-day festival of lights, and we're celebrating it here at ICMP!

It is a major festival celebrated over five days in many parts of India by people of different faiths, by lighting diyas, feasting and playing music.

Diwali is known as ‘the festival of lights', originating from South Asia as part of the Hindu religion.

It is in fact, one of the main Hindu festivals. Now, it is celebrated worldwide by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and Buddhists. Diwali is also known as Deepavali, Tihar, Swanti, etc.

What happens during Diwali?

It lasts for 5 days during which the entire city/ country is decorated with diyas, colorful lights, and rangolis. Families visit their relatives and feast. Fireworks are absolutely essential.

The Hindu goddess of wealth, Lakshmi, is worshipped so that she brings wealth and prosperity.

Why is it celebrated?

There are a lot of reasons based on different legends, but the common theme is good triumphing over evil.

Why does it matter and why should YOU care to show up?

The celebration is an opportunity to explore a different culture and how diversity can bring us together.

We encourage you to start up conversations with your friends who may be far from home at such a significant time!

We look forward to seeing you in The Venue at our Queen's Park Campus from 7PM, where there'll be music, food and fun!
