Let acclaimed artist, songwriter and ICMP tutor Angela Blacklaw guide you through the basics of songwriting and our BA (Hons) Songwriting degree in a free hour-long collaborative class.

What to expect from the event

You’ll gain a taste of some of the ways we teach songwriting at ICMP. Together, we’ll explore the nature of songs, outline common stages in the creative songwriting process, and attempt some collaborative songwriting, working out what makes a good song and why.

You’ll also have your first experience of working with a member of our highly esteemed songwriting faculty. Bring your instrument, if you have one, and a pen and notebook.

Meet Angela Blacklaw

As well as teaching on our BA (Hons) Songwriting course, Angela works with a range of corporate and commercial clients, from film-makers to leading charities, to produce unique and original songs with a distinctive modern sound. As a singer, she has performed in some of the most prestigious venues in London and New York. Her solo album, The Scale of Love and Destruction, was released in 2014.

Angela has been involved with the theatrical stage since she was 17 years old, when an accident involving a blade and the tip of her ring finger curtailed, also, her career as a violinist. She has since developed an accomplished career in performance and professional development. The latter bringing her to the directorship of two companies, while the former has seen her perform at the Royal Festival Hall, the Barbican Centre, and the Regal Rooms, along with stints in Hungary and New York.

Our next online taster session will take place via Zoom on Thursday 25th February (5pm–6pm).
