Andy Saphir is quite simply one of the best country guitarists in Britain today. With over twenty years teaching, recording, and touring throughout the UK and Europe, Andy is a highly valued member of the ICMP faculty. He is also a regular contributor to the magazines Guitarist, Total Guitar, and Guitar Techniques (see his columns ‘Hot Country Guitarists’, ‘Hot Country Lead’, ‘Modern Country’ and ‘Session Soloing’).
A long-standing member of the ICMP family, Andy graduated from the college in 1995 (when it was still called The Guitar Institute). Since then he has toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe with the likes of Michael Twitty (son of country legend, Conway), American singer and fiddle player John Permenter (Clint Black), and Nashville guitarist and songwriter, Glenn Mitchell (Lonestar, Billy Currington).
As a recording artist, his credits include working with X Factor finalist and ‘2 Shoes’ singer, Charley Bird, plus George Donaldson and Ryan Kelly of award-winning Irish vocal group, Celtic Thunder.
Today, alongside his busy writing and teaching schedule, Andy tours with the musical theatre shows, Voice of The Heart – Karen Carpenter, A Vision of Elvis, and Forever in Blue Jeans, as well playing with top Eagles tribute band, Desperado. As noted in Lee Hodgson’s book Hot Country: A Comprehensive Guide to Lead and Rhythm Country Guitar Playing, Andy is a “fine British country guitar player”.
